RAA Tech Triumphs as Grand Winner of TECH PLAN Demo Day in Malaysia 2024
2024/05/20On May 18th, 2024, Leave a Nest Malaysia successfully organized the prestigious TECH PLAN Demo Day in Malaysia 2024, held at RekaScape, Cyberjaya.
The event showcased the brilliance and ingenuity of nine exceptional finalists meticulously selected from a pool of 65 highly promising applicants. These finalists represented a diverse range of cutting-edge innovations and groundbreaking solutions. Ultimate, LuFloc, Fav Food Industries, Tigasfera, Mizu NanoPaint, RAA Tech, UKMMedikSkru, A2Tech, and SpaceIn captivated the audience with their remarkable solutions and inventive concepts. Each finalist had the opportunity to present their core technologies, business models, and solutions to pressing issues before a distinguished panel of judges. The panel comprised esteemed representatives from Leave a Nest Malaysia, Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd., Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), pitchIN, TERAJU, East Japan Railway Company (JRE), Mitsui Chemicals Singapore R&D Centre Pte. Ltd. (MSRD), Real Tech Holdings Singapore Pte. Ltd., and Euglena Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. In addition to the nine finalists, the event also featured six lightning talk presentations from Mindnrobotics, MEG, ecoMINIM, AgroPV Integrated, EdFLAX, and VARS. These lightning talk teams were selected based on the voting by the partners of TECH PLANTER Malaysia 2024, igniting the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship in the Malaysia tech ecosystem.
The event highlighted groundbreaking technologies and the collaborative spirit of the Malaysia deep tech community, with local judges demonstrating their tremendous support and commitment to supporting entrepreneurs. Among the most outstanding startups and researchers, RAA Tech, a spin-off company from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), emerged at the top as they captured the prestigious Grand Winner award. Leveraging Malaysian rubber, their cutting-edge technology creates a self-healing natural rubber that makes motorcycle and car tires puncture-proof.
As the Grand Winner, RAA Tech received a financial reward of RM7,000 and an exclusive invitation to pitch at the prestigious TECH PLANTER Asia Finals in August 2024, held in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. This opportunity will provide RAA Tech with a global platform to showcase their disruptive ideas, engage with industry leaders, and attract potential investors. RAA Tech also received the TERAJU Award and Mitsui Chemicals Group Award, comprising RM4,000 cash prize each.
SpaceIn, a USM spin-off company, with their remarkable pico-satellite technology, received two prestigious awards: the Leave a Nest Award and the Real Tech Holdings Award. As a result, SpaceIn has been invited to participate in TECH PLANTER Asia Finals 2024 and has also been awarded a prize of RM4,000 in recognition of their exceptional achievements.
LuFloc, an shrimp aquaculture startup, aiming to implement a sustainable shrimp farming system, was honoured as the recipient of the pitchIN Award, receiving a prize money of RM4,000.
Tigasfera, a startup utilizing a cleaner gasification & pyrolysis technology in containerized waste-to-energy system, received the SDEC Award, with a prize money of RM4,000.
UKMMEdikSkru, the only non-incorporated researcher team hails from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), was honored as the recipient of the CRADLE Award. The team works on bioactive medical screws developed from novel material, namely Titanium alloy-Hydroxyapatite composite.
Ultimeat (M) Sdn. Bhd., a startup that utilizes mycoprotein fermentation technology, a nutritious alternative that addresses the overprocessing issues in plant-based foods, received the East Japan Railway Award with a prize money of RM4,000.
Last but not least, Mizu NanoPaint received the Euglena Award. Euglena Malaysia is pleased to offer Business Support Consultation to the awardee. This award presents a valuable opportunity to learn from Euglena, a spin-off from Tokyo University that has achieved unicorn status in Japan and expanded into various sectors. With their innovative paint with heat reflective and artificial photosynthesis properties, Mizu NanoPaint can leverage this chance to gain insights into how to navigate the ecosystem and business landscape to become a leading biotech company.
